CSE 3407

Analysis of Algorithms

COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

This course introduces techniques for the mathematical analysis of algorithms, including randomized algorithms and non-worst-case analyses such as amortized and competitive analysis. It also introduces the standard paradigms of divide-and-conquer, greedy, and dynamic programming algorithms, as well as reductions, and it provides an introduction to the study of intractability and techniques to determine when good algorithms cannot be designed. *CSE 3407 has mandatory evening exams; the specific days and times will be listed under assessments on the course section once confirmed.

The class was pretty unorganized all semester. Long time to get exam grades, not much clarity in the scope of each exam, assignments often posted late/same day as the deadline, many questions left unanswered on Piazza, lots of grading complications after the semester ended. Stopped attending lectures very early on since I didn't find them helpful

The nature of 347 is suffering and loads of work. You will feel like you never have a break, and honestly will crash out. However, exams are not that bad. Questions asked are quite reasonable. Buhler does a respectable job at trying to teach difficult course topics. Only curves exams. Overall, good luck. It's going to suck no matter what.

Harsh grader, never responds to emails, class run by TAs, a hot mess

3407 was the most unorganized class I've ever been in, apparently it's usually not this bad so hopefully it's better in the future. Lectures made absolutely no sense. I stopped going halfway through and there were only like 8 people left in lecture before I left. Office hours are not beneficial whatsoever

We're almost done with the semester (thank goodness), but I have to say: THIS COURSE HAS NO COORDINATION whatsoever. He does not communicate or address us on Piazza whatsoever, and he doesn't with the TAs either!! We got our Exam 1 grades back 1 DAY before Exam 2, and now he's ignoring us as we're about to take exam 3. DO NOT take his classes.

Her class is ran by TAs, 0 communication between professor and students.

Only half way thru the semester but I NEED TO VENT. This professor DOES NOT reply to piazza posts. It's been more than A MONTH since our 1st exam and WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE GRADES. It's 4 days away from the 2nd exam and she never gave us the scope of the exam nor any logistical information about it. If you can, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!!

I'd like to commend him for an organized semester. Our Exam 3 was on the last day of classes, and we weren't made aware of this until 2 months prior, but he clearly put effort into trying to accommodate. The lectures are... OK, but I stopped attending early on. You'll learn most everything from the TAs.

347 is notoriously hard, but Buhler makes it as approachable as one can. And for a tough topic, I actually think he did a very nice job making lectures (fairly) approachable and demonstrative. I think a lot of poor ratings are just because the class is inherently hard which isn't his fault. Definitely take 347 with Buhler over any other proff.

4-6 hrs/week

Exams are impossible (most people fail them) and the hw is pretty doable IF you go to office hours early and at least once per week to check your work

When I did the pre-lecture video, pre-recitation videos, tried in recitation, then attempted the homework (with AI), I did do above average on the exam. But, this takes easily 12 or 15 hours a week, so I couldnt keep up the whole semester. The prof is insanely out of touch from the class, and the notes/examples she provides are insanely unhelpful.

This class has the trifecta. Lectures that are confusing and often contain incorrect or contradictory information. TA's that are unhelpful at discussing potential solutions and really only serve to spoonfeed you the rubric answers. Exams that are long and ask you to either memorize or copy answers from previous problems. Disappointingly bad course.

Goes through material very fast, does not host office hours, not accessible through email or piazza. In terms of lecture, Agrawal is an okay professor. Wish she would be more patient and explain things more thoroughly given that the material is very challenging.

Not worth going to lecture, but class is manageable if you go to office hours and watch the video lectures

Agrawal runs 347 like she\'s going through the motions. "Lectures" are not lectures. You watch years-old lecture videos, some made by other teachers, and then watch examples on the board during the lecture slot. The syllabus has no grade scale, and she avoided all questions about what it is. Would never take this class if it wasn\'t required. 0/5

Professor Agrawal makes lectures interactive and clearly walks though multiple examples for every topic. The course schedule with videos, lectures, and recitation is tough, but it helped me learn the material well for exams.
