Pre-requisite: AP Chemistry, or two years of high-school chemistry, or one school of high school chemistry and one year of high school physics. Loved daschbach, she makes class a better experience and is also a great professor. Really great in office hours as well. This class is not AP chem so don't go into it expecting that, but the work you put in is what you get out. Interesting concepts and stuff but can be abstract at times esp the quantum stuff.

Mabbs is a fantastic lecturer. I never found myself bored during class. The class is relatively difficult; it will likely be different than any other class you have taken. Super interesting material though.

besides the midterms and finals the content is actually not that difficult. will say that if you just give up for a quiz or two you will fall behind insanely. do PLTL.

Really hard class. It requires a lot of time to study and all the midterms are quite challenging. But the professors are really nice.

Mabbs is an awesome lecturer with a passion for the subject. The first half of the semester is dedicated to wave physics which was kind of frustrating because my friends taking 105 were learning actual chemistry and I was struggling to understand how what I was learning applied to anything. In the last month or so of class everything started coming together and it was very satisfying having everything tie in. DO UNGRADED HOMEWORK and go to PLTL.

Best prof ever. Really appreciated how he talks about scientists from underrepresented groups and achievements. Chem111/112 is not an easy course, but his lectures are very helpful. Hardworking pays off in this course.

She's really nice and has great lectures. even though chem111 is pretty tough, she explains things really well

Dr. Mabbs is a fantastic professor. Probably the best lecturer I have ever had. The content of Chem 111 is pretty difficult, but he always kept the lectures super engaging, and I never really found myself bored. He uses the chalkboard much more than slides which facilitates note-taking very well.

Amazing professors. Put in the work, go to office hours, and study hard. You’ll be fine.

First STEM class in college and got my ass kicked. Loomis is a good professor though.

By far the BEST professors at WashU. They make a difficult course incredibly interesting and engaging; it's a shame that they no longer teach the course after years of success and being loved by so many students.

This course can be challenging at times, but if you study it is doable. Luo was a great professor for this course. You learn a lot.

Awesome class, so fun. I loved the content so much. It was taught in such an easy to understand way. Both loomis and daschbach are great. Quizzes are really easy. If you do the quizzes you don't need to study for exams, which are also easy.nI want to recognize that this class came easy to me and I know some people found it hard, hence the reputation of the class. But I also know a lot of people who found this class super easy and put in no work outside of attending lecture. This course is fun and not very hard, you should take it.

Went into this class with zero (applicable) chemistry experience. Between PLTL graded and ungraded homeworks and weekly quizzes it was easy to know what you knew and needed to learn. Falling behind in this class would be hard. Fantastic course taught fantastically. Loomis/daschbach made a very hard subject fun and approachable.

Loomis was a really enthusiastic lecturer. Not that bad if you've taken ap chem, but you really only need 111/112 if you want a faster paced gen chem course

Certain concepts can be tricky to understand, but go to office hours when you have questions. Discussing concepts with others can be helpful to clarify misunderstandings. Do the non graded homework and PLTL, and you will be fine. If you don't have a background in chemistry (taken 0 chemistry courses in hs then for sure take 105) (if you have taken ap chem and ap phys 2 then for sure take 111)

You do not realize how good Loombach is until you take other courses. The team is incredible and passionate. They just know how to teach. They have remained my biggest mentors at WU. I will miss them.

Professor Daschbach is the best at what she does. I have never met someone so organized and capable of explaining concepts. Anyone will tell you she is the glue of Chem 111-112 and the person who makes Gen Chem the best intro sequence at Washu by far.

Chem 111 is a total disaster, but Mabbs is awesome. He gives very clear lectures and is very personable.
