MATH 4301
Linear Algebra
This course is an introduction to the linear algebra of finite-dimensional vector spaces. It includes systems of equations, matrices, determinants, inner product spaces, and spectral theory. Prerequisite: Math 310 or permission of instructor. Math 309 is not an explicit prerequisite, but students should already be familiar with such basic topics from matrix theory as matrix operations, linear systems, row reduction, and Gaussian elimination. (Material on these topics in early chapters of the text will be covered very quickly.)

Not a lot of work, but class was really boring, the final was kinda hard

SO HARD. averages on exams were like 60s. however, there is a HUGE grading curve at the end

He is a 5/5 Person. Seems like a super cool guy. As a professor though, he would say the proofs I was struggling with were trivial, made impossibly hard exams, and taught directly out of the text book. I guess 5/5 person and 1/5 educator averages out to 3/5 professor. Generous grading scale though which sorta made up for the impossible exams.

Course content is pretty difficult, which makes lectures sometimes challenging to follow. But, Yang is very accessible during office hours and is always willing to go over any questions. Exams were quite difficult (all of our exam averages were within the D range), but Yang is generous with the curving scale.

Tough grader for the first half of the semester. Then found out nobody was getting an A. The second and third exams were easier and the final grades were fair.\n\nLectures were easy to follow, and he would repeat/clarify ideas if asked.

He certainly has room for improvement as a newly hired AP, and he is quite strict about the completeness of proofs, but this class was really not that bad. He offered a lot of EC to make up for the low midterm avgs and never tested on the hardest concepts. I only got ~70 on the first midterm but really improved over the semester and got an A+.

Worst professor I have had at WashU. He gives absolutely no partial credit and he rarely answers questions on Piazza. His announcements are rude and his grading is horrendous. Avoid him at all costs.
