Essential French 1

FRENCH

This course immerses students in the French language and Francophone culture from around the world, focusing on rapid acquisition of spoken and written French as well as listening and reading comprehension. Songs, games, skits, videos, chats, and debates provide a rich cultural context for the themes of the course, including identity, self, and family; school and university life; French cafe culture; and travel. Interactive web-based practice at home helps students prepare to apply their knowledge in the classroom. By the end of the semester, students are able to present on real or imaginary journeys in French-speaking countries. Director: Allen.

Allen is a great professor, and this was a great class. There is a lot of homework through VHL, but it isn’t terrible. Very interesting class not too hard

Professor Allen was sweet and caring, but a bit disorganized during lectures. Most learning came from online assignments, with class time primarily consisting of review and group activities. She spoke in rapid French for most of her instructions/lectures, leading to some misunderstandings. Overall, the class was manageable but not my favorite.
