Quality: 3Difficulty: 3CHEM 1752

Redden is what you would expect from an average lab instructor. Her lectures are pretty boring but she does do some cool demos. As for the class, the labs are pretty difficult and if you mess up in lab and get a bad yield and bad values in your report you can lose a lot of points. Also, the exams can be tricky, but they follow the labs closely.

152 is harder than 151 but still not too bad. Prof Redden is great, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her students. When I attended office hours she was very encouraging and let me stay past the ending time until all my questions were answered.

The lectures are not worth going to most of the time. The tests are extremely nitpicky and one mistake could cost you a ton of points. Not as bad as people make it out to be, but it will definitely help to have a background in chem. I didn't and still got an A both semesters, but it required a bit of effort. Study the procedures and process of labs

Redden did an amazing job moving the lab course online during the pandemic. She was honestly the only professor who seemed to put any thought into it, and it felt like we didnt miss a beat. Exams are fair, mentor office hours are extremely helpful, and if you put in the effort the course is generally pretty straightforward.

I dont see why gen chem lab (of all classes) has to be extremely hardits almost comical, really. Its frustrating as no matter how much work you put into your labs, the midterm and final are going to bite your ass. Washu needs to let premeds get credit for this class then move on to orgo if they got a 5 in AP Chem. This class ruffled my feathers

Redden is a great prof, but the class is horrible. The material is very, very nit picky and difficult to understand, and the way that the class is grade does not help at all. You can work very hard and learn a lot of material, and still not get the grade you want because of the way they grade. If you can take it pass fail, do it. It's not worth it.

I hate this class so much. Labs are not bad because you can ask your AI or lab mates (and can get a lot of help for lab reports), but those EXAMS. They SUCK. She really tries to make the class and lectures interesting but doesn't do a good job. Really study the material in the lab manual (not the lab procedures) because that's what's on the exams.

Reddens lectures are not that bad but her grading policy is very harsh as you spend so much time on your lab reports but if you do not receive the 300/400 on her exams you cannot be considered for the A range. I put a lot of work into this class and actually had enough points for an A but could not receive it because I did poorly on her exams.

Redden is an extremely organized professor and that makes it really easy to fall into a good rhythm for lab! Labs are intended to be difficult but there are lots of resources available for your success!

Prof. Redden was fantastic! I was really scared going into Chem Lab because of my lack of experience however, she explained all the material super well. She was very clear in her lectures and I liked how she came around during the lab period so I could ask her any of my questions.

Redden is the most mediocre professor I've ever had. She's not bad, but even though she tries to be engaging the material is just soooo boring. Also she makes things way more complicated/emphasizes things that shouldn't be important (like sig figs). The class isn't too difficult though since it's pretty much just high school chem again

Dr. Redden is a very nice lady, however her lectures are boring and are jam-packed with way too much information for a 50 minute lecture. Also, each Lab is very difficult and the lab reports are difficult to understand because answers are based on experimental data so you cannot collaborate with your peers. Don't recommend unless needed for major.

I found to not enjoy this class as much. I just couldn't stand her boring lectures. However, I do believe that she cares a lot about her students, as there are a lot of things she tries to do during the lecture to spice things up.

Although Redden moves through the material quickly in her lectures, her teaching style is clear and enthusiastic. Make sure to watch the course content videos where she explains concepts slower and in more detail. Would also recommend utilizing TA hours for the lab reports.

The lectures were so boring! After the first couple, it was hard to stay awake, which is odd since Redden is very enthusiastic during lectures. Taking AP Chem in high school helps A LOT with this class/makes it easy. There isn't too much work, and you get into a rhythm. Most of the labs are straightforward, although some are pretty stressful.

Kind of the only option for General Chemistry Lab, so it's a good thing she's solid and reasonably enthusiastic. Pretty rote-memorizey, but it's pretty understandable as there's no way one could cover all of the theoretical stuff behind the material in Lab without having taken 111/112. Out-of-class resources are your best bet in this class.

Lectures are gone through very quickly; it's not an effective way to teach all of the material. Be sure to read the lab manual before going to lab and use outside resources. Dr. Redden is very nice and willing to help outside of class though, and has a difficult course to teach.

Quality: 3Difficulty: 4CHEM 1751

Redden is a really good professor, she just has a really tough course to teach. There's so much information you have to learn each week that it's really hard to score well on all the labs if you don't utilize TAs and other outside resources. READ THE LAB MANUAL BEFORE YOUR LAB!!

Quality: 3Difficulty: 3CHEM 1752

Professor Redden covers a lot of material in her lectures so it's essential to use the other resources she provides to fully grasp the concepts. She is very helpful during office hours, especially in the week right before an exam.

Quality: 4Difficulty: 4CHEM 1751

General Chemistry Lab with Prof. Redden was difficult because what I would consider several lectures worth of material is crammed in one lecture. It is, however, about the only way it would be feasible for labs every week. The labs are well thought out and directly relate to the material taught in lecture. it is not related at all to Chem 111.

Quality: 5Difficulty: 3CHEM 1752

Professor Redden packs a lot of material into the fifty minute lectures, but there are soooooooo many resources. Her lectures are very helpful and she hints at important and useful information a lot. She has practice quizzes online (which I definitely recommend you do). She has exercise sets for each experiment and abundant TA office hours.

Quality: 5Difficulty: 1CHEM 1751

If you put in the work and use the outside resources, this course can be very rewarding. Demos during lecture are interesting, and Redden is so sweet and helpful when approached with questions.

Quality: 5Difficulty: 2CHEM 1751

She covers a lot of material during lecture, but the power point format makes it relatively easy to follow. Also the nicest and most helpful professor I've encountered outside of class.

Quality: 3Difficulty: 2CHEM 1751

She lectures at a blistering pace--it can be hard to keep up with her. Having said that, she's really nice and helpful outside of class. Her tests are pretty reasonable, and while labs are more difficult than exams, they're interesting and not THAT bad either.
