Take MEC2900 w/ Gray. He is knowledgeable, will stop and answer your questions in class or outside of class, and is a great lecturer. The class is difficult with hard exams, but Gray gives you everything you need to be able to succeed in the class. There is an Olin curve for every test. Study the slides/practice exams heavily and you will do fine.

Andrew Gray is a great lecturer and individual. He was very accessible outside class and genuinely wanted his students to do well. Much of the course is determined by whether you beat the average on the exams. It is hard to get an A- or A if you do average on the exams, even with 100% in everything else. Difficult class but great professor.

MEC290 is just a hard class, period. Gray is a decent professor but you will need to work hard in the course.

His lectures are long and boring. The exams are so hard. I've heard he's the better option though.

Great professor, very caring, and explains everything in detail. Easy to reach and ask questions, the lectures are interesting. Try to understand everything in-depth, because the material by itself is quite hard. All exams open notes, but nothing extraordinary. If you attend every lecture and do all your homework, you should be ready.

Andrew Gray is an amazing professor. Genuinely cares about students and works to make sure everyone grasps the material. He does teach very difficult classes, hence the difficulty rating; however, he does his best to convey all of the material to students in an easy-to-understand manner.

Gray is consistently amazing at what he does. He is a great professor that wants everyone to succeed. MEC370 is challenging for sure, but office hours are very helpful. He is open to scheduling additional times if weekly ones don't work. Problem sets are participation-based, just study hard for those exams. Would highly recommend Gray.

Great lecturer, made the game theory topics very clear. Office hours times were a bit inconvenient for me, but he made himself available whenever I emailed and provided pretty quick help every time. Made sure everyone understood and welcomed questions. Exams were all fair, and Prof. Gray was very knowledgable about the topics.

I love him and his class. MEC 290 is definitely notorious in Olin but I liked it and it was my favorite course. Taking MEC 290 with him made me want to go to every single class, review on time, and study hard for the exams. One thing is that the engagement grade is not only based on poll eve but also on how active you are in the classroom.

Gray is a chiller. Game Theory is an interesting course - just prepare to get really good at being efficient at test taking.

Gray is probably the only professor you want to take MEC 290 with. The material can be difficult to understand in the beginning, but towards the end, the topics get more clear. He allows cheat sheets for the exams and is super kind, caring, and will offer additional office hours if you ask. I would say office hours are a must for this class.

2-4 hrs/week
All around great course. I thought it was a little easier than game theory since it’s more applicable to real life. Problem sets are difficult but he grades liberally. There is a presentation component that can be a little challenging depending on what topic you choose. Exams are pretty in line with practice, although there is usually one question that wasn’t on the practices that forces you to apply the material. Overall interesting and rewarding class.

I heard MEC was tough when I went in, and the concepts were indeed tough at times. Gray explains them concisely and clearly, and his lectures add genuine value. I would not take MEC290 with anyone else besides Gray. Problem Sets and cooperative exercises are mostly easy A. Exams are curved to average of 85. He also actually cares about your success

Took this over the summer and he is great. Definitely the best professor for MEC 290 by far from what I've heard. Super accessible for help even though it was asynchronous and seems like a good lecturer. I would definitely recommend taking it with him over anyone else.

Would have struggled more if I had taken this with another professor. He makes the material manageable and is good at explaining things in plain English. We also got unlimited cheat sheets which was a lifesaver as someone who doesn't care about economics or know what I was doing. Go to lecture!! He says things not on the PPT notes that are helpful

I found this class super interesting. Gray makes it easy to follow and the exams are easier than other Econ Strat classes. I always looked forward to this class

2-4 hrs/week
I did not like this class as much as other people did. I found it pretty boring and hard to pay attention. The curve is half points back though which is very generous.

Great professor. Clear lectures and material that has a straightforward style and occasional dry humor. Everyone dreads mec290, but I felt like Gray is the exception.

great professor/lecturer and nice guy but lectures were very dense. exams were fair for the most part and he gives lots of resources to study for them. doable class but definitely use office hours and friends in the class

Took over the summer. I really liked this class and professor. It was all asynchronous and exams were fair

Great professor! I was really scared of Game Theory because it is a hard course, but he taught it so well, everything made sense. Tests were really fair, lectures were engaging, and office hours were always open and helpful. I would definitely take this class again!

Andy Gray is straight up the best professor I've had in Olin so far. Unbelievable lecturer, nicest guy, and he cares so much. He's like that guy who is really cute but doesn't even know it--but with teaching. He has such a gift for teaching, but also the mentality of someone who is trying to improve themselves every day. It's so inspiring.

Professor Gray's class is designed for you to learn. The lectures are clear, concise, and well planned and you can tell that he cares about and understands on a high level the material being taught. Semi-weekly problem sets helped ensure I was understanding and engaging with the material so I didn't have to study as much when the exams arrived.

Translates material very well, very reasonable, teaches and lectures well. Is always available to help and seems to have great expertise in the material. Would recommend. An upper division class, so obviously expect some more work (weekly Problem Sets) but very manageable overall if you put in the effort.

For all the horror stories of Mec 290, a very straightforward and good lecturer. Show up, take detailed notes, and ask questions when you get confused, and you will get AT LEAST a B. Highly recommend.

Professor Gray gives clear, concise lectures that make micro concepts easy to understand. The content itself is not too difficult, and Gray makes sure that the problem sets are similar to tests. Gray seems to be the best MEC 290 teacher.

imo Gray is the best prof for mec 290. In general, it's a difficult course, but he really cares about teaching the material and making sure it gets understood.

Professor Gray is honestly the best professor that you can have for MEC 290. He explains the concepts really well and is willing to help the students. As long as you do the practice materials, you will PASS.
4/29/2023
MEC290 is a pretty boring class to take, and the concepts are hard to digest sometimes, but Gray is a great lecturer who helps his students understand the topics well. Exams are open notebook and curved generously, and problem sets are graded for completion unless you really mess them up. MEC290 will suck, but take it with Gray if you can.
4/24/2023
Micro is boring but Gray does a pretty good job of explaining the concepts. Sometimes his answers to people's questions can get a little long winded but other than that, lectures are useful to attend in person in case you have questions. Would strongly rec going to his office hours. Problem sets are fine, go to TA office hours if you need help.
4/21/2023
Professor Gray is a great person and lecturer who genuinely cares about each of his students and makes himself available to help. Class is pretty lecture heavy, grade is determined mostly by two midterms and a final; there's also 6 problem sets and a case competition that's 10% of the course grade (case competition is completely outside of class).
4/20/2023
Micro is really a boring class by nature. 1.5hr lectures feel like 2+hrs every time. Prof Gray is a personable guy who does about as good as a job as I'd hope for a professor in this class. His office hours are great, exams are open note and curved ~87, problem sets are helpful, and he gives a TON of practice exams. Nice guy if you get to know him!

Decent lecturer (econ isn't the most exciting topic to teach and he does not change this but doesn't do a bad job either). Concepts are hard to understand and tests are hard (but curved)
