Dr. Elise is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students and their success. She never fails to have a smile on her face and always to encourage students to try their best. She conveys information really well and helps break down complex bio topics into smaller, more understandable chunks. Would 100% recommend taking 2960 with her.

I didn't have Dr. Elise (I had Hanes), but my goodness, this woman is amazing. She cares SO MUCH for students, evident in the her teaching approach & the effort she puts into class materials. She even prepares questions for students to ask during office hours. Lowk got 3 on the AP, but with Dr. Elise's unwavering support, I was able to get an A+ :)

Great professor. Loved her class. The course is well-designed to make sure you actually learn stuffs and not worrying too much of your grade. Exams are really hard and detailed, but they only take up a limited portion of the total grade. Also made a lot of friends in this group-discussion styled class. Really enjoyed it overall.

this lady is my queen. bio 2960 is not a weed out in the small section AT ALL compared to chem. the content isn't necessarily super simple but she breaks it down really well and is super accessible outside of class for extra questions. the small section saved my grade and i cannot recommend this professor enough.

I was part of the small section for Bio 2960 and it was amazing. There was a lot of content so it was difficult but if you stay on top of things and ask for help you can get and A in the class. Lab helps a lot and is 25% of your grade so make sure to remember that. Dr. Elise is so kind and caring, definitely take her class!

AMAZING professor! Bio 2960 is hard—it covers a lot of material and is taught at a fast pace. However, Dr. Elise is so enthusiastic and sweet and genuinely wants us learn. Even if you've taken AP or IB bio, I still recommend applying to be in the small section with her!

Dr. Elise is hands-down the most wonderful and impactful professors I've ever had. She knows and cares about each individual student and really wants everyone to succeed. The Bio2960 content can be heavy/challenging, but she breaks it down and presents it in a digestible and engaging way. She's super accessible and supportive outside of class.

Take Dr. Elise if possible. If not, try to get in her lab section. She is so caring and friendly in addition to explaining the materials extremely clearly. The course is structured as group discussions + prelecture recordings. Be ready to do more work than the other section but the take away is huge and cooperative learning experience is fantastic.

Dr. Walck-Shannon (who prefers to go by Elise) is a very caring and down-to-earth professor. I had her for 2970 Lab; she truly cares about student success. I learned early on that she is the only lab professor who creates additional material to help students understand course content. She is truly one of the best professors at WashU.

Professor Walck-Shannon is one of my favorite profs at WashU. She is extremely caring, and an amazing lecturer. She takes the time to learn everyone's name in Bio 2960's special sections (around 80 kids), and knows everyone individually, which is incredible. Definitely take a class with her if you can.

A hidden gem at WashU, one of the most genuinely caring professors at this school, and a phenomenal instructor. She explains the concepts very clearly and makes them super approachable. She is extremely clear in her expectations for students. A professor I highly recommend every student take.

Dr. Elise is absolutely amazing. I had her for 2970 lab and she helped make the 2970 material so much more understandable. She is one of the most caring and enthusiastic professors at WashU, and if you can take a course with her definitely do!

She was an amazing lab instructor and was very caring and accommodating. She also made sure that the content and labs were easy to understand. Amazing overall!

One of the best instructors in the BIOL department. If you can take section three with her; DO IT. She is so sweet and her enthusiasm got me through the Dark Ages my second semester.

Dr. Elise is one of the most transformative professors at WashU. She deeply cares about her students' success and mental well-being, building lasting relationships. She goes beyond teaching, ensuring we fully understand the material, and offers incredible support and resources. I highly recommend her—she will change how you approach learning!

The sweetest, most enthusiastic professor ever. Her redesign of 2960 evidently required enormous amounts of work, and she handled the new semester extremely well. Her teaching style is good, but the class structure is great. As long as you consistently actively engage with the material, it is very possible to do well in this course.

Dr. Shannon really cares her students and explains concepts clearly during lab sections. Biology department should let Dr. Shannon to be the lecturer for Bio2970 rather than Dr. Barton whose brain often stops working. I would recommend others taking lab section with Dr. Shannon for Bio2970.
