Cuillé is a very kind person who, given the relatively small seating capacity of his courses, cares about the individual performance and health of his students. I found this course to be easier than my AP French class in high school, but this course can still be intellectually stimulating if you try to participate. Exams are curved generously.

Easy grader - let us do corrections on papers, quizzes, and exams. Very friendly and accessible prof. Class ranged from very boring to mildly interesting. Gave a decent amount of reading and grammar exercises, but you could get away with not doing most of it. Overall nice professor, class was an easy A.

Superrrr chill class. Lowkey didn't know what was going on the whole semester and you don't HAVE to participate to do well, but you definitely should if you want to get something out of this class. Taking it with Lionel Cuille means you get what you put in, he's super understanding and flexible but that means it's easy to just sit there and do nothing if you want. That's fine. You'll still do well, but you won't learn or get any better in french.

Professor Cuille is great. His syllabus and instructions for assignments are very clear. He also includes short presentation activites in pairs in addition to his discussions. He also has some funny moments where he speaks French randomly and makes some lighthearted jokes.

Dr Cuillé stands out as one of the best professors i have had in my time at Wash U. From professors I have had in PNP, IHP, and the pre-med requirements, he is one of the best. He teaches a great literary modernites course. Wash U would be hard pressed to find a better professor to lead such an in-depth and intellectual course.

Took a humanity class with him and have to say he is fantastic. Although he struggles a bit with his English because he is from France, he presents the difficult material with thoughtful clarity and complete patience. He is knowledgable in many areas like philosophy, history and western literature. He is a fair grader and your hard work will pay of
