Okay content. Really not so interesting lectures. Bad class structure. Only exams. Only take this class if you're a psych major.

Exams are way too specific. Everything on the textbook can occur on the exam and that's like eight hours of reading a week. Classes are not helpful at all. You don't need to attend lectures to get good grades on exams. Just read textbook.

Its the most reading I've done at Washu. Says he won't test any trivial specific details, ends up asking those specifics on the exams. Not to mention most of the 300 pg textbook is fair game, and buying the textbook is mandatory cause its linked to your grade. Oh and he wrote the textbook too if that changes anything

Incredible and knowledgable professor. Changed the way I view mental health and humanity. Given a lot of chances to succeed grade-wise, as you get to substitute an exam with a paper and drop another exam. If you're on the fence about taking this class, you definitely should!

Good professor, good class! Not hard to do well if you read the book and the slideshows. Drops your lowest exam grade and allows you to replace another exam with an optional paper, so lots of chances to succeed. Interesting lectures with lots of case studies and examples from his personal experience in the field.

Was not interested in taking this class, but I found that I really enjoyed it. Oltmanns was really relaxed. He also has a lot of experience in his field (for example, NASA uses him to help select psychologically stable astronauts). Good stories. Class can get a little long, though, if you're not in the mood to listen to him ramble.
