Rating Chem 481: Tim is smart, but he expects too much from his students. He covers multiple chapters of a textbook in 1 lecture and is ambiguous about what will be covered on the exams. The entire Biochem 1/2 series is an absolute mess and the only way to succeed is to memorize the textbook.

Professor Wencewicz brings enthusiasm and curiosity to every lecture. He is an expert in antibiotics and bioorganic chemistry, running a research lab in the field. Start the paper early and seek feedback often. Even from just attending lecture and reading the textbook, you will learn so much from this class. The paper is just the cherry on top.

Prof W is ok, but I do not think he knows how to challenge students or he does not teach us how to think about orgo. Work load was reasonable & exams were straight forward. This year was a big letdown after taking two incredible semesters of Gen Chem. I now see why so many WU students take Organic over the summer elsewhere.

Professor Wencewicz presented every reaction with excitement and was always doing his best to keep us engaged. My favorite part was at the end of every chapter, he would highlight how the reactions and processes we learned about are used in biological systems. He worked hard to be sure we understood the material and were prepared for every exam.

Really inspiring person who brings Organic Chemistry to life

Took Orgo II as well as Bioorganic Chem with him. Super nice guy, good lecturer, clear expectations. If you need to take a chem elective, take Bioorganic with him for sure.

Orgo is always hard. That said, Wencewicz gives you every opportunity to succeed. Make sure to understand every reaction written on the board. For the final grade, he considers every individual. Did you improve throughout the semester? One bad test? etc. Finally, watching recorded lectures is way more effective than going to class.

Not very accessible outside of class but a really nice guy. Decent lecturer -- about as good as it gets for orgo. More organized than my 261 teacher

While Professor Wencewicz is not the most exciting professor, and his lectures are quite long, he is a fair test writer and sets a generous curve. He is also very helpful in his office hours. Reading the textbook (carefully) and doing the book problems help immensely with the exams.

His lectures are relatively boring and long. However, his exams are very straight forward and easy if you put in the work.

Great class! I took bioorganic chemistry, and it was all based on antibiotics. There are a couple recommended textbooks, but there are also a lot of literature papers provided.
