Intermediate Spanish I

typical language class here at washu so the load is pretty heavy. carey is a good person and wants us to succeed in learning Spanish; however, she does speak in a way that is lowk sounds like she is babying us. it is hard to ask for extensions or special requests and doesn't really prepare us well for the exams.

She does not give as in deep exam preparation as the other teachers in this course, such as exam practice sheets, which other teachers do give. I ended the class with an 89% because I accidentally turned in a blank file for notes we had to turn in and I didn't notice until a few weeks later and she is very strict with grades, so she didn't care.

Amazing professor hands down! For once, I enjoyed participating in class, and as a result, I learned a lot more during lectures and felt better prepared for the exams, which can be conjugation-heavy and vocab-heavy. Definitely prepare for the exams by understanding conjugation and vocab and by using her slides, which are great!

The homework is essential, but Carey's expectations are always very clear. If you get your work done and care about the content, this should be a solid class for you. Tests always felt harder than the rest of the work, but are a moderate part of the grade. If you genuinely want to learn Spanish, this will teach you.

The class is very grammar-heavy, and you have to learn most of it on your own, and then she gives examples/practice in class. If you participate/pay attention, there is a good amount of engagement points, so you will probably do well and Prof Chambers is very understanding/helpful at correcting mistakes.

The sweetest woman alive. There's a lot of work for this class, and it moves quickly, so it can be challenging to fully grasp concepts, but Carey is an angel: so kind and helpful. She cold calls, but it makes meeting the participation requirements easy. If you like Spanish and want to improve, take this class.

She hardly taught us anything, she just gave us the textbook and one video per week, and then assigned 6 quizzes in a day twice per week. I ended up googling 90% of everything.

Did not hold regular office hours- had a zoom room but the link didn't work. About 2 hours of homework before each class 3X per week. Very difficult regular exams/quizzes. Attendance is very mandatory. Participation heavy!!! Rounded my 89.9 to a 90

Professor Carey is a great teacher and person. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. Workload isn't bad at all as long as you stay on top of it, especially supersite. She's not the easiest grader when it comes to tests but she's definitely reasonable. One of the best Spanish teachers here, she deserves a much better rep!

Professor Carey is very fun and caring in a cool aunt way. But when it comes to classwork and homework, she don't play. There is VHL Supersite work that is always assigned in the class, but you're able to work ahead and it's not hardly difficult to get done as long as you're caught up in the class. Do your best everyday and the class will be good.

He's a nice guy, but as a teacher he isn't good. He doesn't put much effort or care into the class. There is a lot of homework. Also this class is designed to learn grammar outside of the classroom through an online textbook. It is hard because he doesn't explain the grammar or concepts in class. You need to participate in class everyday.

Best Spanish teacher I have ever had! Sra Chambers is so kind and enthusiastic, and her classes are engaging and relaxed. She gives personalized feedback to all of her students and teaches at a good pace.

Carey is a good professor, she cares a lot about her students and she's very nice but she is a very tough grader. There are a lot of assignments in this class and although she gives clear explanations, it is hard to do well in this class.

This class was way better than high school Spanish. Lectures are uncommon, and there is a test or paper due most weeks, but that helped me learn a lot faster and made each test less stressful. There's some homework too, but it was never too much of a problem to get through. Sra Chambers is nice and likes accepting feedback. Overall I learned a lot.

She printed out textbook pages so buying looseleaf not necessary, but do need access to VHL. Grades very harshly but eases up at the end of the semester. Takes off a lot of participation points for being late to class. Some busy work. Hard to do well. Nice person. Takes long to respond to emails. Understanding if you talk to her in office hours.

She was very passive aggressive and made me dread going to class. She will get mad if you aren't giving her your undivided attention and leave rude comments to you on canvas and decrease your grade. Take the class pass fail, it'll save your GPA and reduce your stress.

extremely caring and allowed me exceptions and extensions because of mental health reasons. just had to communicate with her about those issues before the date of the assessment or assignment deadline. if you go to class and show you're trying she'll like you

Professor Carey is a nice woman for the most part. However, she is by no means my favorite professor. She WILL NOT give 2nd chances. Miss an assignment due to mental health issues? Too bad, no make-ups. She'll expect you to email back the day of, but won't do the same herself. Would not recommend.

Profesora Carey is an amazing professor who encourages students to go outside of their comfort zones with the language. She is a tough grader, but is always willing to meet students and is very understanding. The course is fast-paced, but so are all the sections of Spanish so it's not her fault.
