I took several of his classes and have had fantastic experiences. He's extremely knowledgeable and great at explaining concepts. He shares his vast professional experiences, providing students with a deeper understanding of concepts/applications. Most importantly, he goes out of his way to help students with course material and career aspirations.

Professor Dutta is the best instructor I have met at Olin. He not only helped me develop a strong grasp of finance theory but also challenged me to apply these theories in his valuation projects. After taking his class, I feel much more prepared for my professional career.

Great instructor. Helps students learn theoretical concepts and relationships. Leverages industry experience to show real world applications and examples. Wants students to do well and understand (loves and rewards participation). Patient. Great mentor for me on my path towards graduate school. Textbook is a supplement, not required part for grade.

Nothing but respect. Hands down the best professor I've met at Olin. Truly cares about students and wants to succeed. His lecture does not usually follow textbooks, but rather has a lot of insights on how to apply financial skillsets in business settings that makes hour long lectures a breeze.

NYU MS / Wharton MBA, worked in banking, former Senior Economist at Fed Boston, etc. taught at Princeton, JHU, and WashU while concurrently working on multi-million/billion dollar deals Need I say more? If you have an interest in finance and haven't taken a class with Professor Dutta, I strongly recommend it.

Professor Dutta is awesome! Truly cares about his students academically, professionally, and personally. I have taken 3 finance courses with Professor Dutta almost solely because of the professor. Incredible teacher, wealth of experience, and an inspiring individual. I personally believe every finance student should take a class with ProfessorDutta

Hands down the best finance professor I've ever had. Professor Dutta is the best. 1. Unlike most professors, Professor Dutta teaches from actual experience in industry 2. Doesn't like to give bad grades. Go meet with him and show effort. 3. Effort, interest, participation > intellect, knowledge. Show that you care, you will get a good grade.

Fantastic professor! He has tremendous industry experience and a strong theoretical background, so his lectures are very informative. He takes time to explain concepts thoroughly and goes through examples where needed. He also relates what we learn in class to his real-world experience. He's very approachable and helpful outside of class as well.

The professor is very knowledgeable and knows his subject really well. He speaks not only from a technical perspective, but also from a practical viewpoint which makes the course unique and informative.

Prof Dutta brings excellent insights from his industry experience and shares real-world practices in Valuation. I would highly recommend his classes if you are into strengthening the conceptual and technical aspects of finance.

- Random extra credit in class and let the students he likes answer it first, this also applies to the participation credit - Very unorganized lectures, may be lost during the lecture with technical difficulties or confusion - Office hour will get randomly cancelled or removed Nice person, but will not recommend due to teaching quality

Professor Dutta is exceptionally knowledgeable about all the subjects he teaches. He has real world experience and often references anecdotes from his time working in the industry. He is approachable during office hours and is great at answering questions and working through solutions. 10/10 Professor, would recommend anyone take a class with him.

2 or less hrs/week
Actually a super helpful and relevant class if you want to go into IB, ER, etc. it reinforces concepts learned in AFM and main assignments are spread out so you don’t feel overwhelmed. You choose a stock based on a sector and do a report / excel. Final similar to AFM.

2-4 hrs/week
Would recommend not falling behind on the material so you’re not cramming before a final. Go to office hours / meet with Dutta! Also find a good group for the project deliverables.

Prof Dutta is the Lebron James of Finance Professors! Absolutely could not recommend him more - my favorite ever professor at washu, very fair with his grades and really values class participation.

Incredibly experienced professor, who teaches you so many things about the industry. He is a very fair professor and wants see you succeed.

This professor knows a lot and really enjoys what he teaches about. He sometimes goes on tangents and could be more clear, but he will take the time to answer questions if needed and make sure the class understands everything. If you didn't do well in FIN 441, much of what was covered there will be reviewed in the first couple weeks in this class.

Overall, he is a great professor that combines lecture with his personal experience from the years he worked at IBD and restructuring. The lectures are full of anecdotes and pact with knowledge at the same time. The class puts emphasis on both group case studies and weekly open-book, open-classmate quizzes.

No guidance was provided on HW, and questions were set up to trick you. Avoid this professor at all costs. Basically, you're teaching yourself throughout the semester which makes things very stressful.
10/11/2023
Lectures are exact copies of the textbook with the same examples and no further explanation. Homework is often solved wrong, and when correct, solutions are hard to follow. Cases are open-ended but graded with a rubric looking for very specific things, making it easy to lose random points. Overall a good guy, but easier to just teach yourself.
