Quality: 5Difficulty: 1CHEM 1702

He is so nice...I wish I could take him for all my chemistry classes!

He is now teaching at UTD. I read this comment and I just wonder who did really give this man a job at UTD to create the same horrible experiences for students at UTD!! he is one of the WORST professors I have ever seen. No sympathy or respect towards students. He shouldn't be in academia!!!

Quality: 2Difficulty: 3CHEM 1702

He is terrible and unapproachable. He does not care about the students at all. The whole semester was all about him entertaining himself. Worst ever.

5/29/2010

Quality: 2Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Horrible! Never again.

Thank God the semester is over. Gelb is terrible and does not care at all about the students. It is clear that he was counting the days until he leaves. I hope he will not be teaching wherever he is going. Gelb: get rid of the notepad!

If you expect to learn any practical chemistry, you will be sorely disappointed. He knows his stuff, but even after 40 hours of listening to him, you probably wont. His test questions are seemingly meant to trick students and you'll have seen nothing like them in class. Truly horrible.

Quality: 1Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Pompous, bad teacher. Knows his stuff, but doesn't care about students. His lectures are boring and he spends the whole time deriving equations as opposed to actually teaching us anything useful for the exams.

Quality: 2Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

He's not the most engaging professor but he is very passionate about his subject. As others have said, he's very interested in theory that no one else cares about which is pretty annoying. Going to class is a waste of time as he never adds anything of importance that isn't in the notes in lecture.(just copy someone's notes)

Quality: 1Difficulty: 3CHEM 1702

Gelb is horrific. He does not care at all about if we are learning anything. I am not sure he is talking to during lecture, but it is not the students. Get rid of the notepad and derivations.

4/26/2010

Quality: 1Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

Awful. Derives formulas the entire class period. no interaction with the class whatesoever

3/25/2010

Quality: 2Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Spends a ridiculous amount of time on theory rather than giving examples.

Quality: 3Difficulty: 1CHEM 1702

WEIRD. He is off the charts weird. I don't like just copying his notes as he writes them, but at least we know exactly what we have to know. His tests are straight forward, and a bit too easy. With so many students, I would rather harder exams to spread out scores, but also to better push us. I'm not sure all the derivations are needed.

Quality: 3Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

Quirky guy. Class merely consisted of us copying what he wrote on lecture slides onto our own copy. Tests were fairly straight forward (more than first semester).

Quality: 4Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Overall Gelb's lectures are well-organized and easy to follow but I found that he spent way too much time on derivations of equations rather than applications. His hair is awesome though.

Quality: 4Difficulty: 2CHEM 1702

the man you want for gen chem II. lectures are extremely well organized and clear. he makes it interesting as well. great hair, great sense of humor. exams are challenging but doable (not like 111 exams). quizzes pretty straightforward if you do the hw. the hw problems he makes up are real hard, but generally you get by with the text problems.

5/6/2008

Quality: 4Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

he tries to teach but tends to go off tangent of what we are supposed to be learning about. he seems pompous, but i think it might just be the hair.

This is an excellent professor. His lecture slides were very organized and his derivation of equations in class really helped me to connect and understand many chemical principles. His tests can be a little bit tricky initially, but by the end of the semester you'll be able to pick them out. Overall excellent professor!

He knows his stuff, and his exams are not impossible.. Not too many curve balls.

Quality: 5Difficulty: 3CHEM 1702

Lev Gelb is WONDERFUL. He's organized and clear. It's extremely evident that he really knows his stuff. Plus he's endlessly entertaining.

3/7/2008

Quality: 4Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Far better than Buhro, whom I had first semester, Gelb was clear and prepared for class, though his expectations for the exams were often unclear.

Haha, oh Gelb, I really do miss your hair flips during class -- C'mon guys, let's show a little love and vote him "hot." The side part with long side-swept bangs, very shiny, very well-conditioned. Anyway, I had him the first year he taught at WU, so it's been awhile. But he was okay: not too hard, not too confusing, but very entertaining.

Am retaking the class from another professor and realizing just how terrible Gelb really was. The topics are not hard, but what the hell did he teach? Did he even teach? Do not take his class....total waste of time.

I am going to be a chemistry major and I am now realizing that I learned nothing from Gelb even though I earned an A. I have no clue who he was talking to during class, but it was not the students. I am planning on sitting in on Chem 112 this semester to try and learn something.

Quality: 4Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

Gelb was SOOOOO much better than Regina F. I really enjoyed how he acted like he knew everything; I mean, he DID know everything, so that's fair. He rocks my socks...twice a weekend.

Quality: 1Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

Unless you enjoy watching an arrogant man flip his obnoxiously long hair out of his face while he proves random formulas, don't take this class, or at least not from him

12/23/2004

Quality: 3Difficulty: 3CHEM 1702

Not as bad as everyone says... better lecturer than Fry. His arrogance is actually pretty amusing.

12/10/2004

Quality: 2Difficulty: 5CHEM 1702

You might as well learn chem from the book because all he does in lecture is work through proofs that have little or no relevance to what you will be asked to do on a test. If you have him, get help. Get help from Cornerstone before you fail the 1st test.

5/3/2004

Quality: 1Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

Scatterbrained, goofy (awkwardly so), and gives extremely tricky tests. Like another said, only gives proofs during class w/ a lot fo mistakes. Assumes we know all, so teaches us next to nothing. PASS ON GELB IF YOU WANT TO LEARN CHEM!

3/24/2004

Quality: 1Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

Terrible teacher and insanely annoying

2/5/2004

Quality: 1Difficulty: 4CHEM 1702

i dont know for sure if hes still here, but very unclear, didnt explain things clearly, only did proofs in class, made lots of mistakes.... DO NOT TAKE CHEM WITH LeV GELB!!!
