Randall Hoven

Hoven is not the best. I don't particularly like math but this class was supposed to be review of DE and Calc 3. I did fine in both of the other classes but did not do great in this one. He is not very nice to students when they don't understand things. He is a TOUGH grader and barely give partial credit. You can get through it just study a lot

Would definitely recommend. One of the best (and easiest) professors in the ESE department.

Hoven is a good professor, and his online lecture notes are very helpful. There's a lot of homework, but if you take the time to do it it will pay dividends on exams. Some people on this site are saying his tests are easy, while they aren't the hardest engineering exams out there be prepared to study hard. Very possible to get an A.

Hoven's a good dude; puts lecture notes online before class, which is really convenient. He's super nice, and always available for office hours. Gives lots of homework, but still very manageable. His exams are super easy, he mostly recycles the non-book problems from homeworks and past exams. The class is a bit of a bore, but it's not his fault.

He's one of the kindest professors I've ever met. He's always willing to help students. A really great experience.

He is a very good professor. Teaches material that is mostly review but reteaches it as though it is new. He is very explicit about what he wants on the tests and gives awesome formula sheets and practice tests. Homework is kinda long but not bad. Would recommend any day.

Mr. Hoven is a phenomenal teacher. He explains everything very clearly, has great comments, and knows what material is worth teaching. He is also great at email - I've had him answer an email within 15 minutes at 1:30 a.m. Whatever he's teaching, it will be a good class.

Hoven is a great teacher. He's super organized and the notes he gives you are fantastic. I suggest taking a class with him. He got annoyed when people stopped coming to class towards the end, but all in all he's a pretty chill dude and knows the material pretty well. He's also pretty old school.
