Very biased. Not open to opinions and interpretations that aren't her own, if she doesn't agree with your interpretation (or doesn't like you) she will give you a bad grade. Also, there were a few instances when she gave the exact same comments on myself and a peer's paper, but gave very different grades. Bad :(

The course structure needs to be redesigned. You have to do a lot of busy work that has little to do with improving your networking skills and securing a job. I do not mind the considerable time commitment, but the lack of real-world relevance and highly subjective grading criteria hinder the overall experience.

My mother told me if I don't have anything to say, don't say it all…
10/20/2024
I hate this class it is a complete waste of time and it is very time consuming. It is literally forcing us to be pretentious consultants.

Excellent professor. Took Bible as Literature, and she was awesome. Great conversation facilitator, and also made the class think outside of our biases and religious/non-religious frameworks. Reading the bible isn't easy, but it's better than reading a textbook.

this is a 4 credit course, so the workload is heavier than other courses. Rubrics are provided, 2 TAs per class, and a willingness to meet with students whenever. If you don't pass this class, it's totally on you. There is some busy work, but it's about YOU (complete a psychometric, do your resume), so it's all helpful.

Picks favorites. You have to follow exactly what she tells you, otherwise, your grade is impacted. Very much so her way or the highway. Not too hard to do well in the class and some content was useful.

I really enjoyed her teaching style and feedback. Some of the work seemed unnecessary, but that's more of a complaint about the course than about the professor. While some of the things we learned were a bit redundant, some things were extremely helpful. There is a lot a lot of work for this class, but nothing too difficult.

The class was helpful at times, but then other times it was just a waste of time. Some advice and instruction was kinda annoying (how to write emails, using describing words in linkedin, etc.) There is a lot of busy work, but what you put into the class is what you'll get out of it. Staci is pretty nice and funny though so that is good.

she has a smile that kills\nno seriously i thought she was going to kill me

To begin, I don't like the class itself. I feel like the assignment instructions are very unclear and the TAs (depending on who you have) can be harsh in terms of grading. Professor Thomas is a great professor but beware that the assignments in the class are very much busy work.

I can't speak for everyone with my review, but Staci was a good professor overall. I will say that I struggled to see the value in what we were learning at some points (I don't think I'll be changing how I write my emails). But some information was valuable, like that pertaining to presentations. Also, the class's workload is QUITE heavy.

Honestly the most frustrating professor I had at Olin. The information is relevant, but I would argue that some of her advice is not necessarily correct in some ways, so double check with career center. Made the class less enjoyable, and ask peers how they were successful for some of these topics as following her content can come off as overbearing

You get out of this class (and Staci) whatever you put in. Theres a ton of busy work, but the grading isn't super harsh, so as long as you put effort in you'll be fine. Staci does play favorites, but as long as you aren't on her bad side it won't be an issue. Just put in effort and participate, and your grade will work out

Worst class I've ever taken at WashU. I'm a hard worker and got along with Thomas, but was still subject to borderline aggressive grading and feedback. You can't trust that her in-person feedback will be reflected in your grade. For a communications class, this had one of the most overwhelming and unhelpful canvas pages I've ever seen.

Good professor, well-structured class. Easy A if you:\n1.) Do the work\n2.) Show up to class\n3.) Read the assignment instructions and rubrics.\n\nThe course has a Friday subsection, led by the career center, some but not all sessions are super-valuable. The client project is great practical experience. I walked away ready for the internship search.

Staci Thomas is Rude, Combative, and knows everything about everything. She likes to psychoanalyze her students in 1 on 1 meetings, which can be uncomfortable. The course has valuable information, but I would recommend getting it from another professor and definitely not from her.
10/27/2022
Staci is undoubtedly the best professor I have had the pleasure of meeting in my time at WashU. Although there is a decent amount of homework for this class, all of the assignments are purposeful. Even though I am only halfway through the semester, I have learned more practical life skills from her than I have in any other WashU course.

Great professor. I've continued asking for her advice and guidance since I took her class in 2020. She's really helpful, and has great connections! The class teaches real-world skills, so I liked that.

Fantastic professor that legit cares about her students. Took this class in 2018, and it remains the most helpful class I had at WU. She\'ll help you succeed if you\'re struggling. One of the most popular profs at WU. "Bring your best, or just don\'t come." Doesn\'t accept excuses, late submissions, poor quality and whining. It\'s real-world, all day.

This woman is a saint. Take her class; you won't regret it. But learn how to use a semi-colon first. Prof. Thomas cares so much about her students and wants everyone to succeed. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the topics we discussed. Lots of writing (fulfills the writing-intensive requirement) but I honestly thought the class would be harder.

MGT 201 is one of the most ridiculous classes in the B school so it's hard for me to evaluate staci when the class just teaches you about networking and writing emails. Staci was definitely very enthusiastic about it but I was just bored to death at 10 am during this class. TA grading also sucked.
1/17/2022
This class broke my brain. Staci is one of the most disrespectful, combative, and untruthful people I have ever known. She runs the class like a tyrant: everything she says is right, and if you disagree in the slightest, you fail. For a College that claims to champion mental health awareness, I'm shocked she's employed.
12/20/2021
Staci Thomas is the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life, bar none. She is a rude, obnoxious person, who always has to be the smartest person in the room. Staci plays favorites too. The only people who like her are Staci's favorite students, if you're not one of them, get ready for hell.
12/20/2021
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Played favorites in class, terrible communicator, targeted quiet students because she didn't like them being quiet. This class played a significant role in sending me back to therapy. I have never had a professor that made my mental health worse than Staci. Avoid her at all costs.
12/7/2021
I graduated back in 2018 and I think about Staci's class often. It was (by far!) the most useful class I have ever had. Staci is great! I remember being excited to come to class because she is that engaging. She also shows a lot of respect for her students. The key to succeeding in her class is to give her the same respect in return.

Professor Thomas cares deeply about her job. Thats the only positive thing I can say about her. Her lectures are long and boring, she picks favorites, and she grades harshly to certain students who she perceives as less interested in the material. MGT201 taught me a lot about communication, but she provides weak feedback and is a harsh grader.
4/11/2021
This course taught me life skills. I learned a million practical things, but primarily the importance of audience orientation. I've been applying her lessons in every email, every text, every report. She definitely expects you to pull your weight and look for the answers yourself before emailing her. "Be the solution, not the problem."
4/8/2021
I love that Staci teaches us things that are so relevant and useful for the workforce. She makes class very fun and engaging, but beware of cold calling if you don't participate. Very thoughtful and cares about the class. Sometimes harsh on assignments.
10/27/2020
Staci tries to make material that could be taught in one day stretch out over the course of a semester. She acts as if she's the smartest person in the room at all times and will give you F's if she thinks you don't care. Communication is not clear on assignments. She has given feedback that is borderline rude and unthoughtful. Never again.
4/14/2020
Staci is great! Her lectures are engaging and she is funny. The course content is very applicable and has taught me many skills I know I will use (resume, cover letter, writing reports, general business communication). There is a good amount of group work but the class is relatively low-stress. She also makes herself available outside of class.
1/28/2020
She is one of the most well-spoken, intelligent, logical and understanding professors I know. Listening to her lectures is a real treat. She gives great insights on argumentation and really inspires students to grow intellectually and develop critical thinking. She is not biased and accepts all opinions. Great professor if you are pre-law too.
1/12/2020
Makes class fun. She's tough, but really fair. No one gets a free pass, and everyone is held to the same standard without exception. The course is relaly organized well, but sometimes she jams too much info into an hour and a half. you don't need to take many notes, because it's all experiential and 100% practical.
9/6/2019
Great professor and a great class! I wanted to go to class more. Staci is a true gem. She really wants her students to succeed and does a great job of keeping her students engaged. The group projects were, at times, challenging but in hindsight extremely helpful for what was to come. Thank you Staci!
12/6/2018
Group project was time consuming, but the class taught so many skills that will be useful when applying for jobs. Easy A and I would take it again.
1/25/2018
Success in the class depended too heavily on who graded you. I got lucky, but some groups received harsh and unfair criticism. Also, for a communications class, it was ironically really poorly organized/communicated. On the positive side, it was the most practical class I have ever taken. It forced me to write resumes, cover letters, etc.
1/15/2018
Staci is extremely helpful in preparing students for future jobs and is very accessible if you want help on your resume, cover letter, or interview skills. At times she did not communicate her expectations on every assignment clearly, which can hurt your grade. Overall she is a great professor and students will benefit immensely from this class.
12/19/2017
Loved this class. Practical skills in a video lecture format. Classtime is more of a workshop. Integrates student suggestions into the class. An A is totally achievable but you have to show up and do the work. A bit of tough love there.
4/5/2017
Staci is an awesome professor who cares about her students and their success. Her class is well outlined from the start, her expectations are clear, and you will more than likely do very well. The group project can be grueling but it's worth it. Take MGT201 with her over ANY other professor!
12/22/2016
Staci is amazing. Her course is the most applicable course I've had in college. She is there for her students and wants to see her students succeed. There is quite a bit of individual and group work in this course, but it is an easy A. Also, each class has 2 TA's that are also there to help.
4/12/2016
The first PRACTICAL course I've had in college. Actually learned some life skills, and feel like I'm prepared for the job market. Not easy, but worth it.
8/12/2015
Really cares about her students and their success. Even though her class might be more work than other MGT201 classes, I definitely learned a lot and would recommend it.
5/9/2015
By far one of my favorite professors at WashU. She clearly cares about her students so much and genuinely wants to get to know them. Has high expectations and will push you to do your personal best. Also very understanding and flexible. Great sense of humor and all around fantastic professor!
