Quality: 1Difficulty: 5Math 318

Maybe one of the worst professors Ive had. The longest, most difficult and ridiculous homework assignments assigned weekly, a terrible textbook with typos, a brutal grader, and an overall confusing instructor. Always made concepts seem more confusing than they were, and hes not understand of student needs. Would not recommend personally.

Lectures were confusing, and content was extremely difficult. He seems to prefer putting students in their place over helping them learn. He is not really willing to help students outside of class, if you go to office hours you'll just be told to figure it out yourself. CHOOSE ANOTHER PROF IF YOU CAN.

Just whatever you do dont take a class that he teaches. He doesnt respect that students are not as knowledgeable as him and doesnt know how to explain concepts in a way that doesnt go right over students heads. Office hours are not that useful, spent about 20 hours per week on HOMEWORK. Dont do it to yourself.

Bongers was a fantastic professor and easily the best math professor I have had at WashU. He is great for people who actually want to understand math at a conceptual level in addition to learning computations. His class was difficult but if you went to class (his lectures are really helpful and well explained) and pay attention, you can do well.

Bongers gives really long homework assignments. His lectures are fine. His office hours are ok, depends on the day. Some days he will help; other days he wants you to figure it out yourself. Take home exams are very difficult. Expect to spend a lot of time on his class.

Decent professor. A little awkward at times but is clearly knowledgable about the topic and does a decent job explaining considering how complex some of the topics were. He is patient with students and tests are not easy but still fair.

Don't go to lecture, just watch professor Leonard on Youtube. It honestly really makes me sad to say this, Wash U is an amazing school but this was the least clear, most frustrating course I've taken here. Professor Bongers is a brilliant mathematician, but sadly, not suited to be a teacher.

Quality: 2Difficulty: 4MATH 2130

calc 3 has become much harder at Wash U especially the exams - if you have the choice to take calc 2 instead, do so; bongers is sweet but goes too fast, exams are hard, sub section is a joke; if you take this course, watch professor leonard videos and don't go to class.

Dr. Bongers, in my opinion, does not explain complex math concepts with a great deal of clarity. Definitely more focused on pushing a lot of material than actually having you understand. I, trying to be as constructive as possible, recommend not taking his class because it is extremely difficult and not taught in a way conduce to understanding.

Not a good professor. Didn't even give a drop for discussion section.

Hands down the best math professor I've had! His lectures are very concise, clear, and informative, combining helpful dosages of big-picture explanations and specific examples. Add on his light humor, genuine care for students, and accessibility outside of class, and he's the perfect math teacher. Kinda wish I could take more math classes now...

Great instructor who really knows his stuff and is able to effectively convey and teach mathematics. He really took student feedback into consideration, to the point where we were able to choose the specific topics he would cover during review sessions before exams. I recommend taking a class with him.

Amazing professor! Does such a good job of really explaining material clearly and thoroughly in class both with general and specific examples. Everything on exams has been covered in depth in class and homework problems prepare you for difficulty and grading. Incredibly helpful at office hours for homework or just a chat. Would highly recommend!

This man explains differential equations in a way that makes it make sense. He is clear, concise, provides a lot of example problems, and has a sense of humor. Honestly, he's everything I'd hope for in a math professor. Take his class if you can - math won't be a struggle if you do.
