CSE 2400
Logic and Discrete Mathematics
Introduces elements of logic and discrete mathematics that allow reasoning about computational structures and processes. Generally, the areas of discrete structures, proof techniques, and computational models are covered. Topics typically include propositional and predicate logic; sets, relations, functions and graphs; direct and indirect proof methods, induction and recursion; finite state machines and regular languages. Note that this course will be held in-person. *CSE 2400 has mandatory evening exams; the specific days and times will be listed under assessments on the course section once confirmed.

homeworks are annoying. good teacher, but the class is more difficult than people make it out to be. ta's can grade quite harshly

Prof Garnett was clear with was expected and gave out a decent amount of extra credit. Completely manageable class if you put effort in. My biggest complaint about Prof Garnett is his attitude. He was consistently sassy and rude to students during the entire semester. Just stay up to date with the zybooks, ignore his attitude, and you'll be fine

While professor Garnett might be kind of boring on the surface, he's passionate about what he teaches and is funny in lecture. That being said, the class is easy if you do the online Zybooks textbook and don't chat/copy the homework. You also get 0.5 extra on your total exam scores for each lecture you attend over the course of the semester.

Don't trust low reviews! This was my favorite class of the semester and the lectures were super beneficial. Brian is very passionate about math and said some of the funniest one-liners! His personality is super quirky but very kind. Gives extra credit for coming to class. Downside, homework took a long time and I found the 2nd exam to be tough.

Hes so boring and a robot don't take a class with him he has an ego and comes off mean especially if you don't understand something. Very test heavy class.

Great guy and great professor. He can be a bit awkward, but he knows the material down pat. He has a bit of a no-nonsense attitude, which you may like or you may dislike. Exams are fair. If you go to class and don't cheat on the homework, you will do well. Attendance not required. Homework is not hard but takes 5 hours per week on average.

Honestly my favorite class at Washu so far - but not because of Garnett. His lectures were pretty boring so I stopped showing up (only go if you need extra credit), but the material in the class itself is really interesting from both math and cs perspectives. Homeworks are free and exams are straight forward if you actually do the zybooks exercises

Prof. Garnett is probably is the worst prof. He doesn't show any sympathy and is anxious when teaching, he talks like a robot, and he doesn't look around to see if students has questions during lecture. ZyBooks doesn't contain all the details we expected to know as he mentioned this during lecture, even though attending lectures is optional.

Never went to class, learned everything from the zybooks and was able to get an A. If you can do the homework you'll do well in the class.

Don't go to class unless you need extra credit (wait until after first exam). Read a chapter of zybooks, then do the homework for the chapter. Takes 2-4 hours a week and you're done. Study for exam by going through Zybooks and doing the rest of the practice problems. Cheat sheet allowed on exams

Do the homework and GO TO CLASS and you will be good. Most ppl who struggle don't attend class. He gives extra credit participation points if you go to class and attempt a problem.

Homework is not too bad if you start early. Exams are not too bad if you do the homework. Good curve on homework. I liked the lectured

Lectures are super boring but the class isnt that bad and he just kinda follows the Zybooks. he is just a very boring professor so I would get so tired. The material itself is pretty easy and I know some people that didnt go to lecture at all and did fine (wouldn't recommend that). Tests arent that bad and you get to bring in a notecard which makes it much easier and less stressful.

hes lowkey kinda mean but a pretty good prof. go to lecture bc he goes over stuff that isn't in the zybook but is on hw and the tests and you can get extra credit.

Super awkward guy but really sweet and good at teaching. Lectures can get kind of boring but they aren't required to go. If you do the Zybooks reading and practice problems, you'll do find in the course.

Kind of an awkward guy but seems to genuinely care. Also active on WashU Reddit which is kind of funny. Exams are like the Zybooks and if you put in the effort you will definitely get an A.

Clearly the better Garnett. Good at teaching logic and discrete math. If you read the textbook and go to class you will do well. Exams are fair and assignments are graded forgivingly. Great class, highly recommend

I don't particularly understand where the negative reviews come from. CSE 240 was a well-taught class and I learned a lot. Lectures were helpful but not mandatory, and the textbook made things quite clear. Exams are fair and as long as you do the homework you'll do well.
