Elementary Spanish 2
Second semester of the beginning language program stressing acquisition of spoken ability together with attention to the development of reading, writing, and listening skills. In addition to three hours of class, students complete weekly, assessed independent learning activities with multimedia resources.

Prof. Cortes-Ferrandez took a difficult class (1020 is one of the most demanding in the Spanish program) and made it such a fun experience. While the workload is intense and you should be prepared to spend time studying, he gives a lot of credit for trying and really tries to help his students succeed as much as possible. Absolutely recommend.

One of my favorite professors. You can tell that he truly wants his students to succeed. Willing to help everyone gets a's in class by offering to make up assignments. Super nice and makes class fun.

She's a great prof who really wants students to succeed. Lots of variety in class assignments, from presentations, group work, writing, and comprehension. No final exam, but rather a three-part exam twice in the sem where you have to read/watch something and answer questions, talk about it, and write about it. Really helpful for actually learning!

Doran is not by any means a bad professor. She is typically congenial and nice, but sometimes I think her grading is a bit harsh. She will give a 90-95% on any assignment that is near perfect, but not provide feedback on why she took off points; this makes getting above the 93% A mark a bit difficult. Participate 3-4 times per class.

Professor Doran was my elementary spanish professor, and coming into this class, I thought I wouldn't have to know much spansih, but she does not warn you of this. She lectures on all of the easy parts of grammar but when the quizzes come she will test you on material she has never gone over. For an elementary class this was very difficult.

Incompetent. All there is to say. Takes two plus months to grade anything - in all reality the class is certain she loses everything we turn in and gives random grades depending about how she feels about you. Unbearable amount of useless homework. Extinguished any and all passion I have for learning the spanish language.

I took Spanish 102 with Professor Anghel. She is always available and willing to help students. I love that she put an emphasis on lots of interaction between classmates, as that really is the best way to learn and improve your Spanish.

Professor Anghel taught my first Spanish class at WashU and was helpful to me as a beginner, including time outside of class. She's very nice and teaches as well as anyone I've had in the Spanish department here. I definitely felt comfortable participating in her class, which is important in any language class.

I loved Braxs. She grades very fairly, she's organized, she's super engaging and she's got a great sense of humor. She also makes her expectations/what you need to know on exams very clear. Just make sure you participate!

Absolutely great Spanish professor -- extremely kind, always available during office hours, and good and explaining information. The class is definitely more difficult than I thought it would be and is fast paced, but if you study you can do well. Does take a bit to get back tests/compositions and such, but not ridiculously long.

Really caring and sweet lady, and always work with you to make sure you fully understand the concepts. You definitely have to keep up with the work, but it's not difficult to succeed in her class.

1-Has lost my grade- twice 2-Required a meeting outside of class so I set up a meeting with her around lunch time. She cancelled on that morning via email because she 'didn't anticipate being so busy' 3- Is one of the last ones to 9am class, but will dock you for coming late 4-Has missed class 3 times- fails students for missing more than 3 times

HORRIBLE TEACHER. STEER CLEAR. Schnurr doesn't explain anything, which makes the exams difficult. I was going to be a Spanish minor but he completely turned me away from the language. She made the class a lot harder than it should have been. Extremely disappointed with her representing the Spanish department at a school like WashU. AVOID HER.

She has good intentions; however, she is not the greatest when it comes down to wanting a solid understanding of the language. For example, I was explicitly told that any verb can be used like gustar, which is simply false. She can be funny and likes to relate to her students, but if you want to learn, this is not the best option.

Very nice person, fairly easy class. However, she is very unorganized. We never get quizzes or assignments back, which creates more work for us in the end. Not a very high stress class, very laid back. Most classes she just talks to us in Spanish.
