Calculus II
Continuation of MATH 1510. A brief review of the definite integral and Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Techniques of integration, applications of the integral, sequences and series, Taylor polynomials and series, and some material on differential equations.

Very different from Calc 1 with Johnson. Exams are quite challenging with no curve ever, and one question wrong can deduct you a whole letter on the exam. Besides exams, the workload is light, but you have to study a lot to get a good grade in the class. You can drop a midterm for the final though.

His lectures are really helpful if you actually go to them. The exams aren't always super similar to the practice exams but if you study you'll do fine.

run. genuinely run. the class average was less than a 70 for every exam and he never even curved it. be prepared to study for a week and still get a 60. calc 2 doesnt need to be that hard but he makes it like that.

Not only is he an engaging lecturer for Calc II and Calc III, but his course structuring makes it so easy for students to succeed. So many resources available for help, and he is always available and supportive for his students. Rare WashU STEM class where the practice exams are actually aligned with the real thing. Super nice with regrades too.

Schaefer is truly the type of professor you'd dream to have. He made me feel comfortable and supported during my first semester of college and I already miss his warm presence. He cares about each of his students, teaches so clearly and intelligently, and gives plentiful practice and guidance for exams. He clearly loves his work. He is a gem.

Calc II material is not my things and I struggled with the course but the instructional team is there to support you. Help sessions, email communication, review sets, practice problems, and more all exist so there is plenty to do to get more comfortable with the material. Schaefer is also very involved in lectures and makes them enjoyable.

Schaefer is one of the most wonderful teachers I've ever had. He is always happy to help and gives a lot of opportunities for help outside of lectures. If you have the choice, take any one of his classes!

I like his lecture style, as it is mostly comprised of doing problems which suits how I learn, and he taught most material alright. Tests weren't too hard in my opinion, just use the past tests he gives (which I appreciated) to study which I found more helpful than his review sheets. Lectures weren't mandatory but I would highly recommend them

For Calc. III Blake Thornton is alright. He says weird stuff sometimes but he's not a bad lecturer. I actually had Moncada (do not recommend) and switched to Thornton and learned much much better. He uses the classic chalkboard and spends adequate time with problems. Alright guy, good professor.

This class was very difficult (especially the final) and was graded on three midterms and the final. Dr. Thornton was an excellent teacher, and I would not have done as well in this class without his willingness to meet with students and explain things, so I would recommend doing that and listening to the advice he gives.

if u can wait to take this class in the spring with schaefer...do it. thornton wants to make the test harder every year-practice exams are nothing like the actual test. and exams are weighed A LOT. the final was incredibly difficult. he added conceptual stuff that we've never tested over. if u miss one MCQ its like 4 points already. avg on final=76

Goat, would recommend Shaefer to everyone. Shaefer can teach my dog math and he would do better than some people in the class. Calc II is supposed to be a difficult lower level math class, but he is great at his job and really cares about his students. Also go to his office hrs, and talk with him. hes the best.

For Math132 and 233 (Calc II and III). Great professor overall. His lectures can move a bit quickly, but he goes through examples. His office hours are helpful. He's also a genuinely kind professor who truly cares about your learning and well-being as a person. Exams are not bad if you study and practice.
