PSYCH 3011
Experimental Psychology
Psych 3011 is limited to students who have not taken Psych 300 and want to enroll in Psych 300 and Experimental Psychology concurrently. Therefore, students who enroll in Psych 3011 must also register for Psychology 300. Psych 3011 fulfills the Psychology 301 requirement for the major. Topics in the two courses (i.e., Psych 300 and Psych 3011) will be coordinated in order to integrate the concepts from Statistics with those from Experimental Psychology. Experimental Psychology provides training in the logic and techniques of psychological research so as to provide students with experience in the design of psychology experiments and interpretation of results. Topics include experimental design and control, library research, quantitative treatment of data, graphical presentation of results, and clarity of scientific writing. Lectures focus on general principles of experimentation while the laboratory component provides an introduction to a range of psychological phenomena through hands-on experience in experimentation. Each student also completes an independent research project of his or her own design under supervision of a faculty member. Enrollment limited to 15 students. Declared P&BS majors will have priority. PREREQ: Psych 100B and concurrent enrollment in Psy 300.

2 or less hrs/week
loved Bergstrom. Made the class very manageable and took things one step at a time. Course project can seem like a lot but if you stay up with deadlines it is not bad!

I took Psych300 and Psych301 with Nestojko (in different semesters). Psych300 will be a cakewalk for most people, especially if you have prior stats experience. Psych301 is a ton of work especially in the second half of the semester, but Nestojko does a great job of supporting students and teaching them the content in an engaging way.

Hands down best professor I've ever had at WashU. For a 2 hour class twice a week, he kept it engaging and made sure to give breaks. Prof Bergstrom is very caring, accommodating, and truly wants students to learn and succeed. For one of the hardest psych classes, he made it less of a burden which we were all so grateful for.

His lessons are engaging and understandable. In his larger lecture based classes, he tries to maintain engagement, but he is better at facilitating that in a smaller class setting. He won't try to trick you or make the material too hard to learn, which other professors will do at Wash U. He's very social, which took some time for me to get used to.

Love love loved Bergstrom! He was super flexible and understanding about us having other stuff outside of his class and would always change deadlines to give us more time. Really appreciated him this semester

I love this man, and if I could, I would take the rest of my psych classes with him. Amazing professor and genuinely cares not only about his work but also his students. Can be pretty late with grading things, but more than makes up with be super understanding and flexible with you.

Nestojko is an amazing professor. He is very organized and friendly and is great at explaining concepts. There are lots of homework and group projects, so be prepared.

Professor Bergstrom is the best professor I have had at WashU. He makes the class incredibly engaging, he gives very detailed instructions, and he is incredibly understand. Even though Experimental Psych is known to be one of the more difficult classes and work heavy classes in the Psych Department, Bergstrom made the class incredibly manageable.

Bergstrom was so nice and so funny! Very engaging and really cares about you as a student. He's been my favorite professor at WashU so far! 10/10 recommend.

He is just the best! He truly cares about his students in and out of the classroom and only wants to see them succeed. This class can be very content-heavy, but he moves through it well and in an engaging manner. Definitely one of my favorite professors!

I love Professor Bergstrom!! He is so engaging and considerate to his students. He loves to chat with you in or out of class and is a great resource. The few lectures we had were very entertaining and informative. It is clear he wants his study to do well and be healthy. Very awesome would highly recommend him.

Dr Bergstrom is awesome! He is a great lecturer and is funny. He gives good feedback on papers and allows you to do corrections. Regarding the research paper, he is instrumental in helping you develop your idea and offers great insight. Take experimental psych with him! Trigger warning though: this class is a lot of work.

This man is an angel. He is the most caring and amazing professor on this campus. He is an amazing lecturer and really cares about his students so much. His experimental psych class is hard (not his fault) but he is great.

I love Dr. CS! She's fun, engaging, and makes the material very understandable. I had her for the paired stats-experimental classes, and I highly recommend it. Made stats 100% easier (I dropped it last semester), and experimental was easy but rewarding. Very complex ideas made to feel super simple because of how well they were explained.

Cohen-Shikora is one of the kindest and most genuine professors at WashU. I've had her for multiple semesters, and she's engaging, smart, and grades very fairly. She also goes out of her way to help students. Experimental psych isn't easy, but it's also a very reasonable class if you keep up with the workload.

Although this class seems to be a lot (you have to write two nearly 18-page papers throughout the semester), he gives plenty of feedback to help you do well. I attended office hours nearly every week during the times that we had to write the papers and I did very well. He does a great job of helping if you go to him to ask for it.

Best thing about Dr Nestojko? Hes accessible. I emailed him in a panic at 2am the night before a paper was due. He responded in 10 minutes. Kind, funny, and a great lecturer. I recommend him for both psych stats and experimental psych. One of the best professors at WashU.

Ive taken two classes with Nestojko and both were great. Experimental is a potentially difficult class and he made it easy and entertaining. He is a funny and engaging lecturer and the test and quiz material comes almost all from the slides. I recommend taking any class you can with him

Professor Nestojko is a great professor! He cares about each student as an individual, gives great feedback, and is pretty chill.
