PSYCH 1000
Introduction to Psychology
A survey and analysis of concepts, theory, and research covering the areas of biological psychology, human development, learning, memory, social psychology, and mental disorders and their treatment. This is a general survey course designed to introduce students to the diversity of topics, research methods, and theories that comprise the study of mind and behavior. Psych 1000 is required of all majors and is a prerequisite to all upper-level courses in Psychological & Brain Sciences. Open to first-year students and above. NOTE: For first-year students with AP/IB exemption, and first- and second-year students enrolled in Psych 1000 who are interested in exploring a few areas of Psychology within a seminar format, see Psych 1100, First-Year Opportunity: Contemporary Issues in Psychology.

Doesn't record lectures, disorganized and disengaging lectures, posts lecture slides that are missing key material, review slides don't have everything, expects you to know content from textbook not covered in class, exams are hard, but just unfair bc they are terribly worded. I often get questions about material I know well wrong.

took intro psych freshman fall with him and he was great! engaging lecturer, cared about his students, easy to understand and follow and outlined the class very clearly. Go to class or if you skip lecture honestly just study vocab terms from the textbook and you will be fine. easy A with a little effort

Lectures were pretty dry and often poorly organized. Slideshows didn't include key information, so if you didn't write down everything she said out loud, you would miss something important. Several exam questions asked about things not at all covered in class.

Very engaging and sweet professor. The lectures almost always held my interest and prepared me very well for the exams. Nothing bad to say about her!

Her lectures are very disorganized and it's very unclear what you're supposed to take notes on and know. Lectures are not recorded and the slide decks posted on Canvas are missing key terms. There are no practice exams, no practice questions, and no study guide provided for exams. There is a review session, but they often miss key content.

Her lectures are very mundane and unengaging. She posts empty notes that are very difficult to review. Her exam prep is the bare minimum with review slides that are barely relevant to the actual exam's content. She encourages participation and has in class activities though so that's something.

She is the sweetest! Even brought her daughter and a dog into class to demonstrate course concepts. Her lectures are great but the slides are often confusing when using them to study. Exams are pretty specific but all multiple choice. She's really nice and a great for intro to psych!

Prof Bergstrom is super engaging, his lectures are always interesting, and he explains things clearly. I would definitely recommend him for intro to psych.

as long as you know what is on the slides, you should be fine on the exam. does show videos and gives examples, but sometimes what she said felt very memorized and less like she was teaching in the moment.

explains super well and keeps students engaged in lectures through videos and examples. if you study the terms on the slides you will do good on the exam.

Her music at the beginning of class is best part. She comes across as kind and helpful in class, but in office hours she seems annoyed and cold.

Never really gave good feedback, also get ready for the tests as one bad quiz will set your grade back to be almost unrecoverable. Be weary going into this teachers class.

Bergstrom is an awesome professor. His lectures were always interesting, and I enjoyed the analogies and historical stories he would tell. The workload was light, assignments were straightforward, and overall, a great introductory class, given that you do the work and reading.

Loved this class! Bergstrom was a great professor and made the lectures not boring. Attendance is not really mandatory if you want to do well on the exams, since you could honestly just study the slides and do fine, but I would recommend going because it was interesting.

Willroth was a good professor, I just didn't like how she wrote her tests. She didn't provide many practice questions unlike Bergstrom, which made it difficult to properly prepare for the tests. On top of that, the test questions were worded differently so it was harder to succeed compared to her practice exams. She's cool though.

Bergstrom was a great professor, everyone loved him. Just make sure you memorize the key information on the slides and you'll be completely fine for the tests. Lectures were a lot of fun and the class was relatively easy.
